Hi folks, Here's hoping everyone is enjoying this nice May weather. Before I go off to write of this and that let me wish all Mothers, wherever you reside, a very, very Happy Mothers Day, on Sunday May 10th.

           The Bruners Grove United Methodist Church, in Bruners Grove, will have their Mothers Day program today. All Mothers and their family are encouraged to come out and enjoy the Mothers Day Program with all of us.

            At this time our Birthday folks are: JANETTE HOLT, JUNE SAWYER, RANDELL SAWYER, GENE (FROG) TURNER, SHARON TURNER and GARY VICK. May you each enjoy your "Special Day" and have many more Happy Birthdays in the future years.

         At this time our Anniversary couples are JANETTE and MICHAEL HAAG, WHITNEY LEANNE and JACKIE DELL SHAVER, and REBECCA and STEPHON WHITE. May each couple enjoy their Anniversary Date with families and friends, and have many more happy years together.

         May 11th The United States Postal Service will raise all first class postage today to 44¢, to mail a first class letter. This new rate will be in effect for at least one year.

The new one ounce 44¢ First Class Wedding stamps, feature a photograph of two gold wedding rings resting on a small white pillow, a slender ribbon of white silk united them. This years two ounce, 61¢, First Class Wedding Cake stamp depicts a three tier cake topped with white flowers, their stems and leaves a delightful contrast to the cakes creamy white frosting. Both stamps have been available at most local post offices since May 1, 2009.to many, this set of Wedding stamps will be known as "Beauty and Romance", make a perfect match.

May14th-11 am Bible Study ( Pastor Dzobo) upstairs kitchen senior center--1 pm Computer Class--5 pm-Mother's Day Reception. Everyone who will be attending, women/men, all are encouraged to wear a Crazy Hat that may/may not reflect your personality. Your hat will enter you in the "Crazy Hat Contest" best crazy hat wins a prize! If you have a funny story to tell about your mother we encourage you to come tell us, Best Story wins a Prize!

May 16th -10 am Cosby in the Park @ Cosby Campground-6 pm-Lions Club Horse Show-6 pm-Armed Forces Day @ Cocke Co. Courthouse

NOTE! Monday May 11th those who want to enjoy an adventure close to home can join in with us to go to the Briarwood Safari Ranch, in Bybee. The ranch features a scenic four mile safari through the hills and pasture lands to visit animals from six continents. With a minimum of 15 people our cost will be $8.00 and we all ride a tractor pulled wagon to enjoy the view while feeding the animals. Let your adventure of a life time begin! You won't believe your eyes! Hurry Call and put your name on the list to GO! Seating space is limited.???

           May 16th Joseph Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, on Keasling Road, will have their regular monthly singing today. All are welcome to join in with all of us in our singing and worship services.

          May 16th Today is celebrated as ARMED FORCES DAY and in many areas there will be Special Parades, Memorial Services, etc. Here in Newport there will be a "Special Program" at the Cocke County Courthouse, starting at 6 pm. Everyone is encouraged to come out and join in the program to honor all our Armed Forces Personnel on this day.

         May 16th it's music time at the Bruners Grove Grocery Store, on Knob Creek Road, in Bruners Grove, again this Saturday evening, starting at 7 pm with "Owens Brothers Band"! Sure Enough! Them there Owen brothers are here again, to play that music all ears just can't seem to get enough of. Bring the whole family, maybe a relative or two or 3, how about them neighbors also! Sit inside or sit outside, bring a lawn chair enjoy it all, dance away the black top, sit- chat- discuss- solve it all. There is always good deli-type foods and non-alcoholic drinks. There is never an admission charge to enjoy the music- fellowship and good times each Saturday evening at the Bruners Grove Grocery Store.                        

Folks mark your calendar for May 23rd at 9 am, The Cocke County Newport Farmers Market, located in front parking area of the Senior Center Corner Cosby Hwy and Mulberry Street will open to the public, on May 23rd at 9 am. Opening day should see some fresh local grown produce, vegetables plants, herbs, flowers and more! EAT BETTER! EAT FRESH! Vendor spaces are available to reserve yours call MS. Terry Cutshaw 423-623-9272. All vendors need to be set up before the opening bell of 9 am. There will be no early sales to the public before 9 am.

Fire! Fire1 Fire! Fire! The Centerview Volunteer Fire Department will be having a "Fund Raising and Auction" to be held at the Bruners Grove Grocery Store, on Knob Creek Road, in Bruners Grove, May 30th 2009. All proceeds that are raised are going towards a new Skid Plate Water Tank with Pump and a 15 gallon Foam Tank, to be used for chemical fires and hazardous material accidents and or spills. Cost of this much needed piece of equipment is near $12, 000.00. Dinner starts at 5 pm, your choice of 2 Hot Dogs, chips and sides and dessert or Hamburger, chips, sides and dessert for a donation of $5.00 per meal. Carry outs will be available. Music will be provided by Diedra Greene with Karaoke. Auction starts about 8 pm. NOW FOLKS! WE really need your help to donate some auction items for this great fund raising event. We'll take anything from antiques to a zebra, even a new fire truck! Have items to donate and cannot attend please call  LEE SHULTS 423-721-0599 or DIETRA GREEN 423-721-5183 for drop off or pick up service. 

The  Cosby Creek Farms, of Cosby, Tennessee, growers of mushrooms, held "Mushroom Madness" at the Mustard Seed, on Cosby Hwy., in Newport, on May 4th from 10 am to 3 pm. Throughout the day samples of different types of mushrooms were enjoyed by all. Cosby Creek Farms will be at the Newport Farmers Market this year, beginning on May 23rd with numerous different types of mushrooms.
