Grassy Fork Elementary receives $5,000 grant from Lowe's

Grassy Fork Elementary School recently received a $5,000 grant from Lowe's. The money will help fund renovations and additions to the school's playground. HARTFORD-Grassy Fork Elementary School recently received a $5,000 grant from Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation. Last week, officials from the Newport Lowe's store visited the school to present the grant to school principal Dr. Shannon Grooms, staff members, and students. The $5000 Toolbox for Education grant will be used for renovations and additions to the school'playground. Grassy Fork Elementary School is one of more than 1,000 schools or parent organizations to be awarded a Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant for parent-initiated school improvement projects benefiting K-12 public schools across the United States for the 2008-2009 school year. According to Dr. Grooms, the $5,000 Lowe's grant will help Grassy Fork three-phase playground project. After completing renovations to the existing area, future plans call for the replacement of the playground's borders and the addition of a $25,000 playground structure. Plans call for the project to be completed this coming fall. "Through our Toolbox for Education grant program, Lowe's recognizes parent-initiated efforts to enrich the lives of children in our communities," said Larry D. Stone, chairman of Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation. "By supporting schools such as Grassy Fork, we are contributing to a cause that's important to our customers and employees and we're also helping to build a stronger foundation for the children who will be tomorrow's employees, homeowners, and community leaders."
