NEWPORT--A benefit dinner and auction has been set for a 32-year-old woman who suffers from Ewing Sarcoma, a malignant round-cell tumor.

 

Because of the disease, Julie Lane Ivy has had her right scapula (shoulder blade) removed. In Ewing Sarcoma, cancer cells are found in bone or soft tissue.

 

Julie fell ill in 2006, and the cancer was discovered then. She has now undergone three surgeries.

 

She and her husband, Willie, and their son, Caleb, live off Piney Road in the Edwina community.

 

Julie is the daughter of Gail Holder and Jack Lane. She is the step-daughter of Steve Holder.

 

Indian Creek Church of God will sponsor the benefit, which is set for June 6 in the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church Life Center.

 

The benefit will begin at 5 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m. A hot dog supper, which includes drink and dessert, will be available for $5 per person. Snacks and refreshments will also be available.

 

Gospel singing, featuring talent from various churches, will take place throughout the evening.

 

There will be cakewalks, a bake sale, face painting, and children's activities.

 

All proceeds and donations will go toward medical expenses.
