NEWPORT--The Cocke County Democratic Party will host a Roosevelt Day Picnic on Saturday, May 23, at Newport City Park starting at 6 p.m.
Democratic Party Chair Marjorie Ramsey said several Democratic elected officials and candidates have been invited to attend the event. Tickets, which are $10 each, are now available. The menu includes hot dogs with all the fixings, drinks and dessert.
Ward Cammack, a Democratic gubernatorial candidate, will speak at the event. The other Democratic gubernatorial candidates have also been invited to attend. Ramsey said she is awaiting a response and/or confirmation from the others who have been invited.
Cammack grew up in Nashville. He and his wife have five daughters ranging in age from 7 to 20.
Currently a businessman, Cammack's biography states, "For 30 years, my job was to help small businesses across this state develop their business plans and then to find funding to put those plans into action so they could grow, succeed, and create jobs. We all know that small businesses are the engine of job growth. I also worked with cities, towns, counties, and public utilities in East, Middle and West Tennessee to help them find funding to expand their infrastructure-because we all know that no community can be successful without roads, schools, and hospitals."
"I understand this complex and interlinked economy we live in today. And I know how to create jobs. My job for the last 30 years has been to create jobs," it states.
State Rep. Eddie Yokley will also be in attendance at the event. Members of Cocke County High School's Young Democrats are also expected to attend.
Music at the event will be provided by a local group, Vine Ripe, which consists of Evalena Derrick, Kirby Derrick, Ronnie and Sheila Henry, and Kevin Walker.
"This will be a time of fun and fellowship," said Ramsey. "Everyone is welcome to come out and join us." An auction will follow the meal, she noted.
For tickets, or more information, call Ramsey at(423) 623-7610 or (423) 237-8033. Tickets will also be available the evening of the event.
