NEWPORT--Stokely Memorial Library will once again host a summer reading program for teens. Registration is currently underway for the program, which has been popular among teenage girls the last two years. Directed by Susan Ashmore, teen girls are invited to a free "teen transformation" each Wednesday in June from 1 to 3 p.m. Kicking off on Wednesday, June 3, the first session will be titled "Developing Your Own Style" and will include professional hairstylists discussing the latest hairstyles and trends. On June 10, "A Lesson in Skincare and Make-Up Application" will include actual "how-to" tips and discuss the latest products from leading manufacturers. "A Day at the Stokely Library Spa" is set for June 17. Participants will enjoy hot wax treatments for their hands followed by a French manicure. You will then pick out your favorite color to have your toenails painted. The program will conclude on June 25 with an etiquette class. Ashmore said the program will focus on self-esteem, overcoming fears, how to take a good photo, how to protect yourself with basic self-defense tips from a judo instructor, peer pressure, and tips on responsibility as well as transforming from pre-teen to young lady. Space is limited, so to register for the program, contact the library at (423) 623-3832. Pre-registration is required.
