WHITE PINE-During the monthly meeting Tuesday evening,
White Pine City Council voted to accept a bid for $231,000 from Rich
Construction Co. to construct a Splash Pad at Kidz Kountry, which is located
near White Pine School off Roy Messer Highway.
Grant funds totaling $60,000 will be used toward the
project with the remaining funds coming from the city.
Councilwoman Ann Strom commented, "I think this is a
wonderful project. This will be an asset for our children and our entire town."
Mayor Stanley Wilder agreed. "There have been a lot of
good comments about it and this project has plenty of supporters," he said. "I
think this will be a great thing for the community."
Plans are to construct the Splash Pad where the community
swimming pool was once located.
"Once the company confirms they have been awarded the
bid, they will issue a work order and start work on the project within eight to
12 weeks," said City Streets Director Todd Ellis.
In other business, council voted to have Councilman Fred
Taylor serve as the representative to the E-911 Rate Structure Study Committee.
Resolutions #09-9 and #09-10 authorizing the mayor to
sign the MOA for the handling and spending of STP and ARRA funds for the
resurfacing of Agriculture Blvd. and authorizing the mayor to sign a contract
with TDOT for the economic stimulus project for resurfacing Agriculture Blvd.
were approved.
The mayor explained the resolutions were technicalities
involving about $189,000 worth of stimulus funds designated for repaving
Agriculture Blvd. from Highway 25-E to Witt Road near the Walters State Expo
Center.
Taylor reported that planning commission did not meet
during June, but the next meeting is set for July 21 at 6 p.m. at city hall.
