NEWPORT-It was another knock-down-drag-out week in the
Newport Plain Talk Football Contest.
This past week, six of our contestants went an amazing
9-1, which sent us to the tiebreaker, the Tennessee-Florida game. Hey, the Vols
gave the Gators all they could handle with many pundits calling for a Florida
blowout. The Gators won it 23-13, certainly not a blowout. And, with 36 total
points, John David Bible comes away the winner, missing total points by a mere
one.
As our Week 4 winner, John David will get a $10 gift
certificate from Pizza Plus, located at 733 Cosby Highway in Newport, and one
free movie rental compliments of Movie Time Video, located at 150 East Broadway
in Newport.
On the high school level, Cosby picked up their first
victory of the season. The Eagles win their homecoming game big over Hancock
county 40-7, while Sevier County remains undefeated with a 47-6 victory over
Cocke County. Jefferson County came up with their first victory of the season,
7-6 over Seymour, while Greeneville rolled past South Greene 59-29. And,
Grainger dumped Chuckey-Doak 22-6. On the college level, only one contestant
picked Washington over Southern California. The Huskies upended the Trojans
16-13. Only one contestant picked Texas Tech to upend Texas, but it didn't
happen as the Longhorns prevailed 34-24. The other games picks were mixed as
Oregon downed Utah 31-24 while Cincinnati remained undefeated with a 28-18 win
at Oregon State.
Finishing at 9-1 this was week were John David Bible,

Finishing at 5-5 this past week were David Williamson,

Finishing at 4-6 this past week were Mark Sandburg, Angie

Our overall winner at the end of the season will be
presented the Grand Prize, one cinema party for the winner and 19 friends or

The runner-up at the end of the season will receive a

The third-place finisher will receive a $50 gift

The fourth-place finisher will win a $50 gift certificate

The fifth-place finisher will win one night's lodging at
