SHERIFF

INCIDENTS

Trailer missing

Charles Shepherd, 43, 3420 Kenyon Road, Parrottsville, reported the theft of a 16-foot long trailer from his yard to Deputy Bryan Holt on Monday. The missing trailer is valued at $2,300.

Theft over $10,000

Two separates thefts of cash totaling $11,078.00 from Unified Marine, Inc., 1190 Old Asheville Highway, have been reported. According to Constable Roger Henderson, Lisa Proffitt stated that in June, approximately $3,400 was taken from the petty cash drawer, and that on August 7, another $6,240 was taken from the company's safe. In addition to this cash, yet a third amount, $1,438, was reportedly taken from a blue bag inside the safe. According to Henderson's report, there are several suspects in the thefts.

Burned car recovered

Constable McRee Whitten reported the recovery of a stolen 1998 Toyota belonging to Rebecca Hill, 660 Myers Circle, Newport, on Friday. The burned remains of the vehicle were found off Gulf Road. Prior to the fire, the car's tires and rims had been removed.

Multiple charges placed

Deputy Jason Oury filed multiple charges against Jimmy M. Seay, 26, 268 Robert E. Lee Drive, following a car accident on Highway 25-E on Thursday. According to Oury's report, upon his arrival at the accident scene, he found a 1992 Honda Accord, but no driver. Oury said witnesses told him Seay was the driver and had been taken to a Ninth Street address. Oury said he went there, interviewed Seay, and later charged him with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on a suspended license, violation of the implied consent law, and possession of a handgun while intoxicated.

Vandalism reported

Jodi Johnson, 1111 Fish Apartments, reported an act of vandalism to Deputy Tony Bailey on Sunday. According to Bailey, Johnson said that a male acquaintance became angry, kicked over a nightstand, knocked a hole in the wall, and them left, taking bed sheets, two bottles of medication, and cigarettes. There is a suspect in the incident.

Robbery reported

Deputy Tony Bailey responded to a call regarding a robbery at the 411 Citgo, 1321, Highway 25/70, on Sunday. According to Bailey, Karen Clark, 1735 Hawk Lane, Dandridge, a clerk at the business, said a male suspect entered the store, paid for a soft drink, then reached over the counter and grabbed a $100 bill from the register, then fled the scene in a silver car.

INCIDENTS

Television reported stolen

Tim McCloud reported the theft of several items from Rent-A-Center to Patrol Officer Matt Franklin on Monday. According to Franklin's report, McCloud said one was a television, valued at $11544.49, which was to have been returned on July 18, another was a laptop computer, valued at $1200, which should have been returned on Aug. 29, and a 50-inch television and stand, valued at $1797.37, which were to have been returned on July 4. McCloud was advised to take warrants for three individuals through Cocke County General Sessions Court.

Missing child reported

Patrol Officer Billy Woody filed a report regarding a missing child on Saturday. According to Woody, Teresa Ellison, 420 Bicentennial Way, stated her daughter had left home to go to a neighbor's house and has not returned.

ACCIDENTS

Amy and Aimee collide

Two vehicles collided in a curve on Shellbark Road on Thursday, according to Deputy Brian Holt. His report states that a 2002 Ford driven by Amy E. Strange, 36, 601 Elena Lane, and a 1998 Honda, operated by Aimee L. Hall, 18, 2510 Old Newport Highway and owned by Kathy Hall, 218 Riverview St., collided in the curve.

Charges pending

Charges are pending against Leticia Renae Venerable, 36, 848 Hiwassee St., following a one-vehicle accident on Highway 321 on Sunday, according to Sgt. Armanda Fontes. Venerable's 2008 Nissan Maxima was traveling south on the highway when it veered right, then went into a skid, struck a large culvert, and rolled over several times. Venerable was flown from the scene to UT Medical Center.

No injuries reported

Deputy Joseph Owings investigated a one-vehicle accident on Saturday on Bogard Road. According to Owings' report, Scott W. Hurst, 23, 248 Ramblin Road, Newport, was operating a 2007 Dodge Nitro north when a deer jumped in front of his vehicle, causing him to swerve. In doing so, Hurst's vehicle entered a ditch-line, hit an embankment, and rolled over onto its top. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Four-vehicle accident

Four vehicles were involved in a collision on Highway 321 at its intersection with Middle Creek Road on Tuesday, according to Deputy Hollis Emmons. The accident occurred when three vehicles had stopped in traffic for a vehicle making a left turn onto Middle Creek Road and the fourth vehicle struck the third vehicle in the rear setting off a chain reaction. The vehicles involved were driven by Will Lee Valentine, 46, 347 Rocky Flats Road, Cosby; Tony K. Eaves, Jr., 501 Minturn Avenue, Hamlet, N.C.; Lawrence J. Soulier, 42, 1880 Classic Way, Newport; and Tammy L. Holt, 45, 569 Woodlawn Ave., Newport. Passengers in the vehicles included Ocie Woolsey, 46; Natasha Bray, 21; Macie Vincent, 9; Trevor Vincent, 12; Robbie Soulier, 5; Charles Bugg, 41; and Emily Bugg, 2. No injuries were reported.

Cow strikes automobile

On Sunday, as Brandon L. Kilday, 29, 2068 Poplar Springs Road, Greeneville, was driving on Hwy. 321 near its intersection with the Old Parrottsville Highway, his 2004 Buick was struck by a cow. According to Deputy Robert Thornton, Kilday said when he swerved to miss the cow, which reportedly was standing in the middle of the road, the animal struck his vehicle's front fender, front door, and back door, doing quite a bit of damage.

Dodges deer; hits ditch

On Sunday, as Julie C. Crabtree, 35, 251 Fire Department Road, Sweetwater, was driving her 2001 Honda east on Highway 160, she swerved to miss a deer and lost control of her vehicle, which came to rest in a ditch. Deputy Robert Thornton investigated the accident.

GPS sends tractor-trailer to private property

On Tuesday, Sept. 1, Deputy Jason Oury answered a call to the home of William Banks, 49, 563 Jimtown Road, regarding damage done to his property by a tractor-trailer, which had trouble negotiating a curve adjacent to his property. Oury later found the vehicle, a Landair tractor-trailer, stopped at the base of a railroad bridge near the intersection of Jimtown Road and Highway 25/70. The truck was unable to pass under the bridge because of its height, nor could it turn around or back out safely. The truck driver, Gary Wayne Smith, 59, of Sylvania, Ohio, told Oury that he was following GPS directions to the ConAgra warehouse on Highway  73. Damages to the property and other costs totaled $5,084.16.

Charge filed

Horace Ball, 47, 2024 Snipecane Road, New Market, was charged with public intoxication on Sunday by Deputy Robert Thornton.
