Sheriff's


Assault alleged
Kelly Waldrop, 26, of Carson Springs Road, said that on Saturday, Sept. 5, she was at 610 River Road, bent over to pick up a pack of cigarettes, and knocked over a purse belonging to a woman who then allegedly retaliated by kicking Waldrop in the chest. The woman and man then allegedly told Waldrop to leave because she was a hindrance to their search for drugs, Constable Danny Hartsell reported.

Break-in damages window
Ginger Phillips, 32, of Phillips Road, in Cosby said someone broke into her home on Sunday, Sept. 6, by breaking a window and lock. Apparently nothing was stolen, Sgt. Ricky Holt reported.

Break-in alleged
Arthur Goddard Jr., 41, of Shiloh Road, in Parrottsville, said that on Friday, Sept. 4, someone broke into his home and stole a Remington scope valued at $700, and other items, including jewelry, Deputy Sheriff Travis Webb reported.

Aggravated burglary/theft alleged
Darren Hurst, 43, of Stowa Way, in Newport, said that between Friday, Sept. 4, and Sunday, Sept. 6, someone entered his home and stole two horse saddles and $350 in cash, Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported. The saddles were valued at $600.

Telephone harassment alleged
Amanda F. Henry, 22, of 176 Omega Road, in Newport, said she received threats of violence on voice mails at her home on Monday, Sept. 7, Sgt. Ricky Holt reported.

Theft from home up for sale
Wilton Little, of Re-max Realty, in Knoxville, said on Sunday, Sept 6, that sometime in the previous two weeks, someone stole a HVAC unit from a residence at 1406 Blue Springs Way that is owned by Mike Kierswki, 60, of Spring Hill, Fla., and up for sale, Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported. The unit was valued at $3,500.

Two charges of forgery in arrest
Jonathon Keith Johnson, 25, of 664 Lamons Circle, in Newport, was arrested at 358 East Main St. and charged with two counts of forgery in connection with the theft of checks from Ashley Styles, Det. Bryan Murr reported.

Failure to appear and capias
William Lloyd Potts, 33, of 501 River St., in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 1, and charged with failure to appear and a capias, Sgt. Ricky Holt reported.

Public intoxication arrest
David E. Davenport, 60, of 3550 Hardy Road, in Morristown, was arrested Thursday, Sept. 3, and charged with public intoxication, Deputy Sheriff Derrick Webb reported. He was arrested at the Bubbling Springs Shooting Range.

Fleeing to evade arrest, two other charges
Coty Webb, 18, of 1764 Lower English Road, in Newport, was arrested Saturday, Sept. 5, and charged with reckless driving, fleeing to evade arrest by motor vehicle, and filing a false report, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported.

Burned vehicle found
Smoky Mountain park ranger Paul Williams notified the Cocke County Sheriff's Department on Sunday, Sept. 6, that he had found a burned vehicle approximately six miles east of Hidden Valley Way off Highway 32 South. There were no tag or vehicle identification numbers on the SUV, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported.

Runaway reported
A woman on Buckner Hollow Road, in Bybee, said that her son took his father's 2006 Yamaha dirt bike and $500 from her pocketbook, then left home on Wednesday, Sept. 2, Deputy Sheriff Joseph Owings reported. The dirt bike was valued at $900.

Telephone harassment alleged
Jerry McGaha, 36, said that on Sunday, Sept. 6, an acquaintance called him on the telephone and threatened to kill him, Lt. Rick Laws reported. McGaha said the person had called him and harassed him on the phone several times previously.

Medication reported stolen from campground
Vicki Lynn Worthington, 44, of Henry Road, in Newport, said on Saturday, Sept. 5, that an individual grabbed a bag of Worthington's medication from a picnic table while Worthington was at her father's campsite to clean it, at TMC Campgrounds, Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt reported.

Theft reported
Terri Jenkins, 22, of 246 Laramie Circle, in Newport, said that on Thursday, Sept. 3, she noticed her book of checks was missing, Constable Roger Henderson reported.

Trailer reported stolen
Marty Teague, 36, of Greasy Cove Road, said someone stole his trailer on Sunday, Aug. 30, Deputy Sheriff Randall Hartsell reported. A witness said she saw a dark brown or black Subaru back up to the trailer, hook it, and drive off with it. The trailer was valued at $800.

Theft reported
Patricia Cutshall, 41, of 927 Meadow Way, in Newport, said a manager of Food City told her someone named "April" had been cashing checks that Cutshall had ordered through the National Bank of Tennessee and that she expected to receive in the mail. The Food City manager said $1,400 had already been passed, and $800 more in checks was to follow. Cutshall recalled that several months ago an acquaintance had taken two cell phones from her mailbox that were later returned, Deputy Sheriff Derrick Webb reported.

Aggravated burglary/theft over $1,000
John Portwood, 59, of Freshour Hollow, in Parrottsville, reported that on Friday, Sept. 4, he arrived home to discover someone had kicked open his front door and take a spotting scope, guns, and medication. He named two suspects who had asked him to give them some of his medicine, Deputy Sheriff David Crowder reported. The guns and accessories were valued at $1,480, and the medicine, $71. Damage to the door was estimated at $200.

Property damage reported
Donald Farley, 46, of Good Hope Road, in Parrottsville, said that on Saturday, Sept. 5, he damaged the bed of his 1999 F-250 pickup truck when he put a camper on it, Lt. Rick Laws reported.

Kidnapping
Miranda Foreman, 18, of Del Rio, said an acquaintance locked her up in his house after she drove him to a few places in exchange for $20. The person then allegedly made strong advances on her before she escaped and walked away, Deputy Sheriff Travis Webb reported.

Theft/phone harassment alleged
Cynthia Thornhill, 62, of 281 Dandridge, in Sylrie, N.C., said a woman and child came to her camper and after they left, she discovered five medicine pills were gone that she estimated at $100. Thornhill also said the mother has been calling her and leaving threatening messages, Deputy Sheriff Steve Johnson reported.

Vandalism alleged
Russell Mooneyham, 18, of 436 Lennon Circle, in Newport, said an acquaintance cut a tire on his vehicle with a knife. A witness said she saw the person do it and told him to quit, Deputy Sheriff Travis Webb reported.

Driving on a suspended license, and no seat belt
Lee Roy Smith, 20, of 107 Holly Way, in Newport, was arrested Monday, Sept. 7, and charged with driving on a suspended license and not wearing a seat belt, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.

Domestic assault charge and arrest
Windle Garver, 30, of 381 Alex St., in Newport, was arrested Saturday, Sept. 5, and charged with domestic assault, Patrolman Ricky Parton reported.

Theft under $500 alleged
Keith Jordan, 20, of Alex Street, in Newport, said a green and black 18-speed mountain bike and a silver and red Mongoose bike, each valued at $20, was stolen from his residence on Tuesday, Sept. 8, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.

Phone harassment alleged
Jacklin Hall, 19, of Cider Way, in Parrottsville, said on Tuesday, Sept. 8, that an acquaintance has been calling her and texting messages to her all hours during the day for the previous four days. One message allegedly said the person would burn down Hall's house, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.

Counterfeit $20 bill found
Sandra Holt Harris, 50, allegedly tried to pass a counterfeit $20 bill at the Quick Stop gas station at 372 West Broadway, Newport, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, to buy lottery tickets and cigarettes, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported. Harris said she got the bill earlier in the day in Morristown, where she had been shopping.

Hit-and-run on Cosby Highway
Stephanie Price, 31, of 1314 Pleasant Grove Road, in Newport, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Trail SUV on Tuesday, Sept. 8, headed north on the Cosby Highway in the outside lane when a 1990 Honda Accord allegedly ran a red light at the Interstate 40 eastbound exit 435 and struck Price's vehicle in the driver's side. Officers later found the Honda Accord on I-40 with a drive out tag from Southland Auto Sales, Sgt. Jason Smith reported.

Two-vehicle accident
A 2007 Ford F12 driven by Shirley R. Wise, 53, of 414 Duncan St., in Newport allegedly made contact with a 2004 Honda Accord driven by Bobby J. Knight, 65, of 136 Layman Way, in Parrottsville, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at about 5:15 p.m., on Highway 25/70 West, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported.
