NEWPORT-Shaking up the standings!
There will definitely be a shakeup in the Newport Plain
Talk Football Contest overall standings this week following Week 5 tabulations.
Five entrants finished at 9-1 this past week, sending us
to the tiebreaker, total points in Tennessee's win over Ohio, which were 57.
Charles Henderson nearly hit total points on the head to take the Week 5
victory.
As our Week 5 winner, Charles will get a $10 gift certificate
from Pizza Plus, located at 733 Cosby Highway in Newport, and one free movie
rental compliments of Movie Time Video, located at 150 East Broadway in
Newport.
It was another tough week for picks, both on the high
school and on the college level. Ye of little faith! On the high school level,
how about those Fighting Cocks, getting their first victory of the season with
a 34-0 cruise at Union County. Cosby made it two in a row with a 22-16
come-from-behind victory at Chuckey-Doak while Happy Valley smiled pas
Cloudland 33-22. Pigeon Forge got a big 42-26 road victory over Grainger while
Tennessee High was too much for Greeneville 38-17. On the college level,
Tennessee overcame injury woes to hold off Ohio 34-23 while Florida routed
Kentucky 41-7. Utah dumped Louisville 30-14 while TCU held on to beat Clemson
14-10. And, Georgia Tech whipped North Carolina 24-7.
Finishing at 9-1 this past week were Charles Henderson,

Finishing at 8-2 this past week were David Kickliter, Ken
Hall, Mitch Coakley, Ronnie D. McGaha, Betty McAndrew, Marty Coakley, Dana

Finishing at 7-3 this past week were Matt Reid, Herb

Finishing at 6-4 this past week were Adam Lovell, Brian

Allen, Evelyn Webb, Terry Quinton, Angela Templin and Ronnie Leatherwood.
Finishing at 5-5 this past week were Kevin Halcomb, Diana
Grooms, James Roth, Kyal Clevenger, Craig Wild, Billy Roberts, Robert Gray,
David Shelton, Justin Shelton, Jimmy Don Jones, Clint Ramsey, Rob Amick and Tim
Edwards.
Finishing at 4-6 this past week were LuAnn Meadows, Hank
Douglas, Sr., Mike Butler, Karen Fraley, Eugene W. Brown and Mike Benson.
Finishing at 3-7 this past week were D.K. Elliott and
Mark Sandburg.
Finishing at 2-8 this past week was Angie Wills.
Keep on playing the contest week after week. You never
know what may happen during the season, just like this past week, and overall
records will be up-and-down week after week.
Our overall winner at the end of the season will be presented
the Grand Prize, one cinema party for the winner and 19 friends or family
members from Newport Cinema 4, located at 424 Heritage Blvd. in Newport. This
includes a movie complete with popcorn and drinks for the 20 attendees.
The runner-up at the end of the season will receive a
portable DVD player from Movie Time Video, located at 150 East Broadway in
Newport.
The third-place finisher will receive a $50 gift
certificate from Poe's Sport Center, located at 160 Highway 25-E in Newport.
The fourth-place finisher will win a $50 gift certificate
Dazzler's Diamond Showroom, located at 503 Cosby Highway in Newport.
The fifth-place finisher will win one night's lodging at
any Motel 6, in Newport, located at 225 Heritage Blvd.
And, the sixth-place finisher will get a quick lube, oil
and filter courtesy of Stinnett's, located at 1041 West Highway 25/70 in
Newport.

the contest entry form, found in the middle of the page, simply chose which
team you think will win, what you think the final score will be, which will be
used for tiebreakers, and from what sponsor's ad you found the match-up in.
Once you've completed the entry form, simply clip it out,
and drop it by The Plain Talk, or mail it to The Newport Plain Talk, Football

There are come great games for you coming up this weekend
on both the college and high school levels.
On the high school level, Cosby is at home to
Cloudland while Cocke County travels to Dumplin' Valley to renew its' rivalry
with Jefferson County. A big intercity match-up has Morristown East taking on
Morristown West while Bearden plays at Maryville. And, Tellico Plains travels
to Harriman. On the college level, Tennessee plays host to Auburn while LSU
travels to Georgia. Oklahoma visits Miami (Fla.) while California plays host to
Southern California. And, Georgia Tech is on the road at Mississippi State.
