NEWPORT-The opening round of the English Mountain
Football Conference playoffs is in the books with survivors advancing to the
quarterfinal round this Saturday, October 31.
Opening round play was held this past Saturday, October
24.
First, in the NFC, Division I Grasscutter action had
Dandridge beating White Pine 27-6 while Sevierville blanked Northview 30-0. In
Division II play, Grainger County nipped Parrottsville 26-24 while Newport shut
out New Center 25-0.
In the AFC, Division I Grasscutter play had Cosby rolling
past Gatlinburg 32-6 while Pigeon Forge beat Straw Plains 27-6. In Division II
action, Jefferson City cruised past Talbott 38-0.
In NFC, Division I, Super Grasscutter action, Dandridge
blanked Newport 28-0 while Grainger County shut out Sevierville 36-0. In
Division II play, Northview beat White Pine 26-7 while New Center upended
Parrottsville 24-6.
In AFC, Division I, Super Grasscutter action, Talbott
shut out Gatlinburg 33-0 while Jefferson City beat Pigeon Forge 44-15. In
Division II play, Straw Plains held off Edgemont 13-6.
In NFC, Division I, Pee Wee action, Northview downed
Dandridge 33-14 while White Pine beat Grainger County 33-6. In Division II
play, Sevierville blanked Parrottsville 37-0 while Newport shut out New Center
31-0.
In AFC, Division I, Pee Wee action, Edgemont held on to
beat Gatlinburg 19-13 while Pigeon Forge cruised past Jefferson City 40-12. In
Division II play, Talbott beat Cosby 26-19.
That sets up the quarterfinal round to be played at two
locations, White Pine and Strawberry Plains, this Saturday, October 31.
In White Pine, Game 1 at 10 a.m. will have Newport taking
on Grainger County in Division II Grasscutter play followed at 11:30 a.m. by
Northview and New Center in Division II Super Grasscutter play. At 1 p.m.,
Newport plays Sevierville in Division II Pee Wee action while at 2:30 p.m.,
Sevierville plays Dandridge in a Division I Grasscutter tilt. Dandridge will
play Grainger County at 4 p.m. in Division I Super Grasscutter play. And the
final game of the day will be a Division I Pee Wee game featuring Northview and
White Pine.
In Strawberry Plains, Game 1 at 10 a.m. will have
Edgemont facing Jefferson City in a Division II Grasscutter game followed by
Cosby and Straw Plains at 11:30 a.m. in a Division II Super Grasscutter tilt.
At 1 p.m., a Division II Pee Wee quarterfinal featuring Straw Plains and
Talbott followed at 2:30 p.m. by Pigeon Forge and Cosby in a Division I
Grasscutter game. At 4 p.m., Talbott faces Jefferson City in a Division I Super
Grasscutter quarterfinal followed by Edgemont and Pigeon Forge at 5:30 p.m. in
a Division I Pee Wee quarterfinal.
CHEERLEADING COMPETITION
As part of the English Mountain Football Conference
post-season party, the cheerleading squads will involved in their competition
this past Saturday.
In Grasscutter 'Y,' Small Division competition, results
had Cosby (excellent), Edgemont (excellent), Parrottsville (good), Talbott
(excellent) and Straw Plains (good).
In Grasscutter 'Y,' Large Division Competition, results
had Dandridge (superior and winner of the NFC Sportsmanship Award), Gatlinburg
(superior, and winner of the Spirit Award and AFC Sportsmanship Award),
Grainger County (good), Jefferson City (excellent), New Center (superior),
Newport (excellent), Northview (excellent), Pigeon Forge (excellent),
Sevierville (excellent) and White Pine (excellent).
In Super Grasscutter 'Y,' Small Division competition,
results had Cosby (good), Edgemont (good), Jefferson City (excellent),
Parrottsville (good), Pigeon Forge (excellent), Sevierville (superior), White
Pine (superior) and Straw Plains (excellent).
In Pee Wee 'Y,' Small Division, results had Cosby (good),
Edgemont (good), Grainger County (good), Newport (excellent), Parrottsville
(good) and Talbott (excellent).
In Pee Wee 'Y,' Large Division competition, results had
Jefferson City (good), Northview (Superior and winner of the Spirit Award) and
Straw Plains (good).
In Pee Wee 'X,' Large Division competition, results had
Dandridge (good and winner of the NFC Sportsmanship Award), Pigeon Forge
(excellent and winner of the AFC Sportsmanship Award), Gatlinburg (excellent),
New Center (excellent) and White Pine (good).
There were no competitors in the Pee Wee 'X,'
Small Division, Super Grasscutter 'X' Division, and Grasscutter 'X' Division.
