NEWPORT-A Knoxville woman is facing multiple charges in
the alleged robbery of two Cosby women on Oct. 21 in Cocke County.
Gale Gardner, 24, of 212 David Lane Apt. 2, in Knoxville,
was arrested Saturday, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy C.J. Ball.
Ball and Detective Bryan Murr report that Gardner is charged with especially
aggravated robbery, attempted especially aggravated robbery, theft over $1,000
and criminal impersonation.
According to a Sheriff's Department report filed by Murr,
Trula Mae Shults, 74, and Reva Dean Dorsey, 72, both of Cosby, were approached
Oct. 21 by a woman, thought to be in her 20s, who asked for a ride to her
residence. Gardner lived in a rental house on Cheyene Circle in Cosby at the
time of the robbery, according to Murr's report.
Shults agreed to take the women to a residence on Hopkins
Road.
When they arrived at that location, Gardner, who was
riding in the back seat, demanded that both ladies give their purses to her.
When they refused, she struck them both with a metal object, then took Shults'
pocketbook and the vehicle. The women were forced out of their vehicle, which
was reportedly taken by Gardner.
The victims' vehicle, a maroon 1998 Chevrolet Malibu
4-door sedan, was later found on O'Neil Road.
Both Shults and Dorsey were treated at Baptist Hospital
of Cocke County following the incident.
This past Saturday, Gardner was reportedly a passenger in
a vehicle stopped on a routine traffic stop on the Cosby Cut-off Road by Sgt.
Ricky Holt. Gardner reportedly fled on foot and but was later apprehended by
Holt. When asked her name, Gardner gave the name of Gale Smith. Later, Gardner
gave officers her real name and was arrested.
