GREENEVILLE-Two Cocke County residents were charged
Tuesday by a Greene County sheriff's deputy who stopped their car because it
matched the description of a vehicle that was believed to have been involved in
an attempted burglary in western Greene County.
Arrest warrants filed by Deputy Sheriff Michelle Holt
said she responded to a report of an attempted burglary in progress at the
western Greene County residence.
When Holt reached the scene, warrants said, a vehicle
that had been seen at the residence by a witness was gone.
But an off-duty officer observed a vehicle matching the
description of the one seen at the residence and relayed its description and
license plate number to Deputy Holt.
Warrants said Holt then stopped the vehicle on Cedar
Creek Road and found it to be driven by Michelle Lynn Colyer, 31, of 119
Summerhouse Hollow Road, Del Rio.
Deputy Holt charged Colyer with driving on a revoked
license (2nd offense), failure to show proof of vehicle insurance (or financial
responsibility) and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Colyer's passenger, Howard M. Strahan, 32, of 109
Greenwood Way, Newport, was charged with possession of burglary tools,
according to another warrant filed by Deputy Holt.
Neither suspect was charged in connection with the
alleged attempted burglary.
The arrest warrant indicated that a hammer was seen
"in plain view" on the floor of the car in front of the passenger
seat where Strahan was seated and that he later was found to have a pair of
gloves and a "black satchel" on his person.
Bond for Colyer was set at $3,000, while bond for Strahan
was set at $1,000. Both were scheduled to make initial appearances today in
Greene County General Sessions Court today.
