NEWPORT-Cocke County High School senior Shannon Depew
will declare her intent to play at the next level on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lady Red basketball star will sign a letter of intent
to play her college basketball at Carson Newman under coach Dean Walsh. Depew
verbally committed to the Lady Eagles last spring.
Depew, an All-District selection in her first three
seasons at CCHS, will sign on the first day of the NCAA early signing period in
a 2 p.m. ceremony at Cocke County High School.
Depew is also a three-time All-District Tournament
selection and has nearly averaged a double-double throughout her entire career.
The five-foot-ten post/guard combo player has averaged 13.2 points per game, with
8.7 rebounds per game throughout her career while shooting 46.3 percent from
the floor. She also broke the 1,000 point barrier last season.
A pair of other players from the Inter
Mountain Athletic Conference will also declare their intent to play at the next
level. Morristown West's Taylor Hall and Sidney Goins will sign with
UT-Chattanooga and Southern Illinois, respectively.
