NEWPORT-Cocke County's elementary school basketball squads were back on the hardwood this past Monday, November 9, with Del Rio playing at Centerview, Parrottsville at Smoky Mountain, Bridgeport at Home to Northwest and Edgemont playing at Grassy Fork.

The Lady Rockets blasted off to an 18-3 first quarter lead over the Lady Patriots and never looked back, leading 36-3 at the break, 41-5 at the end of three and cruising home with the 34-point victory. Allison Frazier had a game-high 10 points to lead the Lady Rockets while Markisha Allen had three points to lead the Lady Patriots.

Bridgeport (41): Allison Frazier 10, Megan Finchum 6, Destianee Hall 6, Kaley Burgess 6, Alexis Williams 6, Courtney Cox 2, Taylor Dunn 2, Cheyenne Kelley 2, Seaniya Tores 1.

This one turned out to be a nail biter in the end. The Patriots held the early edge, leading the Rockets 18-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Rockets, however, started chipping away at the Patriots' lead, and trailed by four, 27-23, at the break. The Patriots were hanging on, and still led 46-43 at the end of three. But, the Rockets came on strong down the stretch, outscoring the Patriots 12-7 over the final six minutes to claim the two-point victory. Clint Ramsey had a game-high 27 points to lead the Rockets while Barren Pruitt had 14 points to lead a balanced Patriot attack.

Bridgeport (55): Clint Ramsey 27, Blake Gentry 8, Stoney Bohannon 6, Morgan Hall 4, Austin Ford 4, Cody Pugh 4, Jacob Wise 2.

Northwest (53): Barren Pruitt 14, Kinsler Rea 12, Francisco Torres 11, Kobe Robertson 9, McKeal Nichols 3, Justin Gaddis 2, Chris Stevenson 2.

This was a tight contest until the fourth quarter. The Lady Parrotts held a slim one-point advantage, 11-10, over the Lady Bears at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Bears managed to slip past the Lady Parrotts for an 18-16 lead at the break. But, the Lady Parrotts came back to take a 26-25 lead heading into the final quarter. The Lady Bears tightened the screws defensively, and turned it up a notch on offense to pull away with a nine-point victory. Cyara Williams had a game-high 19 points to lead the Lady Bears while Elizabeth Walker had 14 points to pace the Lady Parrotts.

Smoky Mountain (42): Cyara Williams 19, Alpha Parton 9, Miranda Williams 6, Courtney Napieralski 4, Harley Gregg 3, Kaitlyn McReynolds 1.

Parrottsville (33): Elizabeth Walker 14, Ashley Woody 10, Abbie Ramsey 4, Katie Holt 2, Cassie Holt 2, Twylah Fobber 1.

The Smoky Bears were too much to handle for the Parrotts on this night. The Smoky Bears jumped out to a 16-9 first quarter lead, and made it 32-17 at the Break. The Smoky Bears were still rolling in the second half, leading 41-19 at the end of three, and cruising home with the 29-point victory. Max Weeks had a game-high 17 points to lead the Smoky Bears while D.J. Holt and Ike Rouleau each had five points to pace the Parrotts.

Smoky Mountain (55): Max Weeks 17, Lucas Weeks 9, Justin Shelton 8, Jordan Self 8, Jacob Grooms 7, Dereck Weeks 6.

Parrottsville (26): D.J. Holt 5, Ike Rouleau 5, Ty Chatman 4, Thomas Shehee 3, Samuel Hooper 2, Christopher Huff 2, Tyler Green 2, Seth Lovell 2, Jerick Varner 1.

The Lady Falcons flew off the opening tip, and left the Lady Trojans in their wake. The Lady Falcons led 15-7 at the end of the first quarter and 33-16 at the break. The Lady Falcons led 47-22 at the end of three and glided home with the 30-point victory. Hannah Miller had a game-high 20 points to lead the Lady Falcons while Sarah Conard had eight points to lead the Lady Trojans.

Centerview (57): Hannah Miller 20, Leah Lewandowski 15, Brooke Holt 8, Hannah Burke 6, Kaitlynn Fine 4, Kaylee Reed 2, Haily Burke 2.

Del Rio (27): Sarah Conard 8, Autumn Stokely 7, Kendra Wilds 6, Emily Stinson 4, Kristin Conard 2.

The Trojans were on cruise control until late when the Falcons tried to make a comeback. The Trojans led 13-4 at the end of one and 26-16 at the break. The Trojan lead was 11, 35-24, heading into the final stanza. The Falcons outscored the Trojans 16-13 over the final six minutes, but it wasn't enough as the Trojans came away with the eight-point victory. Hunter Phillips had a game-high 15 points to lead the Trojans while Adam Loyd had 12 points to lead the Falcons.

Del Rio (48): Hunter Phillips 15, Shawn Sells 11, Logan Black 10, Raiden Worley 8, Blake Daniels 4.

Centerview (40): Adam Loyd 12, Ryder Keedwell 9, Colin White 6, Nick Myers 5, Kelby Hayes 4, Dylan Brockwell 2, Russell Holt 2.

Edgemont 32

The Lady Ravens were up to the task with a big victory over the defending champion Lady Panthers. The Lady Ravens held the upper hand early, leading 8-4 at the end of the first quarter and 19-12 at the half. The Lady Panthers made a big second half push, however, and pulled to within five, 26-21, at the end of three. Despite the Lady Panthers' effort, the Lady Ravens managed to hang on for the one-point victory. Wendy McGaha had 12 points to lead the Lady Ravens while Sharina Cofield shared game-high honors with 12 points to pace the Lady Panthers.

Grassy Fork (33): Wendy McGaha 12, Dessie Shaffer 10, Kaitlyn Thompson 5, Katie Mae Lanzon 4, Julie McGaha 2.

Edgemont (32): Sharina Cofield 12, Bethanie Williams 8, Ashley Green 7, Erika Fine 3, Taylor Thorton 2.

The Purple Panthers were off and running on this night, and simply ran away from the Ravens. The Panthers led 11-5 at the end of the first quarter, and 26-11 at the break. The Panthers didn't lead their guard down in the second half, leading 41-17 at the end of three and cruising home with the 28-point victory. Blake Clark had a game-high 13 points to pace the Panthers while David Moore had 10 points to lead the Ravens.

Edgemont (56): Blake Clark 13, Kimball Thornton 12, Tyler Mantooth 7, Chandler Duckett 4, Michael Hood 4, Kordel Stewart 4, Bryce Poe 4, J.J. Benjamin 3, Jessie Loveday 2, Brendan Mantooth 2, Lucas Hark 1.

Grassy Fork (28): David Moore 10, Keenan Phillips 5, Thomas Edwards 4, Dakota Moore 2, Cole Shepherd 2, Luke Howell 2, Cole Shelton 2, Micah Johnson 1.

 

Action resumes tonight with Edgemont at home to Centerview and Cosby playing at Bridgeport. Northwest plays host to Smoky Mountain. And, Del Rio travels to Parrottsville.
