NEWPORT-It was one big night of Cocke County elementary
school basketball this past Monday as teams headed into the Thanksgiving
holiday break.
On the schedule Monday was Del Rio at Northwest, Cosby at
Grassy Fork, Bridgeport at home to Centerview, and Edgemont hosting Smoky
Mountain in a day game.

This is an old rivalry, but the Lady Ravens got the
better of the Lady Eagles in front of their home crowd Monday night. The Lady
Ravens kept the Lady Eagles off the board in the first quarter and led 7-0. The
Lady Eagle finally found their offense, but the Lady Ravens had already lifted
off and led 18-6 at the break. The Lady Ravens extended their lead to 28-11
after three and coasted home with the 14-point victory. Wenty McGaha had 12
points to lead the Lady Ravens while Tasha Ball had a game-high 13 points to
lead the Lady Eagles.

The Eagles held the upper hand through three, but the
Ravens came on late to snatch the victory. The Eagles flew out to a 13-8
first-quarter lead, and led 20-15 at the break. The Ravens began to make a push
in the second half, however, and trimmed the Cosby lead to one, 26-25, at the
end of three. Over the final six minutes, the Ravens outscored the Eagles 15-8
to take home the six-point victory. Thomas Edwards had 14 points to lead the
Ravens while Derrick Norris had a game-high 16 points to pace the Eagles.

The Lady Trojans took command early, and left the Lady
Patriots in their wake. The Lady Trojans led 16-1 at the end of the first
quarter, and 26-6 at the break. The Lady Trojans made it 35-10 after three, and
marched home with the 35-point victory. Autumn Stokely had a game-high 12
points to lead the Lady Trojans while Alyssa Mitchell had six points to pace
the Lady Patriots.

This was a hard-fought battle, but the Patriots had just
enough left in the tank at the end. The Patriots had a two-point lead, 14-12,
at the end of the first quarter, and then expanded their lead to 12, 34-22, at
the break. The Patriots led 49-33 at the end of three, and held off a late
Trojan surge for the nine-point victory. Kinsler Rea had a game-high 26 points
to pace the Patriots while Hunter Phillips had 16 points to lead the Trojans.

This was a tight contest with the Lady Rockets managing
to slip past the Lady Falcons in the final frame. The Lady Rockets had a 12-6
first quarter lead, and extended their advantage to 12 points, 23-11, at the
half. But the Lady Falcons came on strong in the third quarter, and cut the
Lady Patriots lead to three, 30-27, heading into the final quarter. But, the
Lady Patriots managed to stave off the Lady Falcon push and came away with the
five-point victory. Alexis Williams had a game-high 14 points to lead the Lady
Rockets while Hannah Burke had nine points to lead the Lady Falcons.

The Rockets blasted off on the opening tip and flew away
from the Falcons. The Rockets held the Falcons scoreless of the first six
minutes and had a 15-0 first quarter lead. The Falcons found their offense in
the second frame, and managed to cut the Rockets lead to 11, 26-15, at the
half. But, the Rockets reloaded in the second half, leading 40-19 after three,
and coasting home with the 23-point victory. Morgan Hall and Austin black each
had eight points to lead the Rockets while Kelby Hayes had a game-high nine
points to lead the Falcons.

In front of the student body in a special day game that
tipped at 9:30 a.m. Monday, the Lady Panthers didn't disappoint their fellow
students. The Lady Panthers and Lady Bears played to a 7-7 tie in the first
quarter, but the Lady Panthers tightened the screws on defense, and took a 20-9
lead into the half. The Lady Panthers led 34-17 after three, and glided home
with the 37-point victory. Ashley Hayes had a game-high 11 points to lead a
balanced Lady Panther attack while Cyara Williams had six points to lead the
Lady Bears.

The Smoky Bears built a big first half lead on the Purple
Panthers, and never looked back. The Smoky Bears led 9-3 at the end of the
first quarter, and 22-7 at the half. The Panthers tried to make a push in the
third quarter, but the Smoky Bears still led 33-19 and ambled home with the
19-point victory. Jacob Grooms had a game-high 12 points to lead the Smoky
Bears while Blake Clark and Chandler Duckett each had eight points to pace the
Panthers.

Cocke County schools have been dismissed for
the Thanksgiving break. But, action is slated to resume on the elementary
school hardwood on Monday, November 30, with Parrottsville traveling to
Centerview, Bridgeport at home to Edgemont, Grassy Fork playing at Smoky
Mountain and Del Rio hosting Cosby.
