NEWPORT-It was back to the hardwood for Cocke County
elementary school basketball squads following their Thanksgiving break.
The schedule Monday had Parrottsville playing at
Centerview, Bridgeport at home to Edgemont, Grassy Fork at Smoky Mountain and
Del Rio at home to Cosby.

This was a defensive battle, but the Lady Falcons used a
balanced offensive attack to best the Lady Parrotts. The Lady Falcons jumped out
to a five-point lead, 8-3, at the end of the first quarter, and held that lead,
13-8, at the break. The Lady Parrotts made a push, and cut the Lady Falcon lead
to three, 19-16, heading into the final six minutes. But, the Lady Falcons
exploded for 18 fourth-quarter points, and coasted home with the 14-point
victory. Brooke Holt had a game-high 10 points to lead the Lady Falcons while
Ashley Woody had seven points to pace the Lady Parrotts.

The Parrotts had both the offense and defense working,
and literally flew away from the Falcons in this one. The Parrotts had a 14-5
first-quarter lead, and pushed it to 30-9 at the break. The Parrotts led 49-13
at the end of three, and then held the Falcons scoreless the rest of the way
for the 41-point victory. D.J. Holt had a game-high 12 points to pace the
Parrotts while Colin White had eight points to lead the Falcons.

The Lady Panthers started slow, but once they got going,
there was little the Lady Rockets could do to stop them. The Lady Rockets had
the upper hand early, leading 10-3 at the end of the first quarter. But, the
Lady Panthers out-scored the Lady Rockets 15-8 in the second quarter to get
even at the break, 18-18. The Lady Panthers out-scored the Lady Rockets 14-5 in
the third quarter for a 32-23 lead, and trotted home with the 12-point victory.
Bethanie Williams had a game-high 19 points to pace the Lady Panthers while
Alexis Williams had 10 points to lead the Lady Rockets.

This was a battle through three quarters, but the Rockets
blasted off in the final frame. The Rockets jumped out to a 10-point lead,
14-4, at the end of the first quarter, but the Purple Panthers came storming
back to take a one-point lead, 21-20, at the break. The Panthers still held the
upper hand and seemed in route to victory, taking an eight-point lead, 35-27,
heading into the final six minutes. But, the Rockets' offense exploded for 23
fourth-quarter points, while their defense held the Panthers to just six points
to secure the nine-point victory. Erin Hartsell had a game-high 16 points to
lead the Rockets while Kimbel Thornton had 10 points to pace the Panthers.

The Lady Ravens were a bit too much for the Lady Bears on
this night. The Lady Ravens jumped out to a 15-7 first-quarter lead, and upped
their lead to 11, 26-15, at the half. The Lady Ravens led 35-22 at the end of
the third quarter, and coasted home with the 21-point victory. Dessie Shaffer
had a game-high 13 points to lead the Lady Ravens while Harley Gregg and Alpha
Parton each had six points to lead the Lady Bears.

This one belonged to the Smoky Bears from the get-go. The
Smoky Bears grounded the Ravens for a 21-2 first quarter lead, and made it 36-9
at the half. The Smoky Bears led 54-11 at the end of three, and ambled home
with the 48-point victory. Dereck Weeks had a game-high 15 points to lead the
Smoky Bears while Cole Shepherd had nine points to lead the Ravens.
