It was a packed house for the Recreation Department
Basketball Jamboree last Saturday at the Rec Department Gym.

NEWPORT-In front of a standing room only crowd last Saturday at the Cocke County Recreation Department gymnasium, fans were treated to a full day of basketball as Recreation League squads battled it out in their season-opening jamboree. Now it's time to play for real as the Cocke County Recreation Department and the Newport Parks and Recreation Department tip off their 2009-10 regular season.

Action tips on Friday evening, December 5, at four locations, including Bridgeport, Edgemont, the Cocke County Recreation Department gym, and the Newport Community Center gym.

Co-Ed: Coaches Shannon Myers (Bridgeport) and Angie Stump (Parrottsville) will officially tip off the regular season at Bridgeport starting at 6 p.m. wile coaches Bryan Freshour (Bridgeport) and Heather Hooper (Smoky) will play at the Rec Department gym also at 6 p.m.

8-9 Girls: Coaches Scottie Thornton (Edgemont) and Norman Smith (Parrottsville) will play at Edgemont starting at 6 p.m. while coaches Steve Souder (Community Center) and Grassy will play at the Rec Department gym starting at 7 p.m.

8-9 Boys: Coaches Chris Taylor (Community Center) and Kenny Phillips (Smoky) will play at the Community Center gym starting at 7 p.m. while coaches Phillip Stewart (Edgemont) and Norman Blazer (Parrottsville) will play at Edgemont starting at 7 p.m. Coaches Chip Myers (Edgemont) and Dewayne Daniel (Parrottsville) will play at Edgemont tipping at 8 p.m. while coaches Shannon Grooms (Grassy) and David Green (Del Rio) will play at the Rec Department gym starting at 8 p.m.

10-11 Girls: Coaches Jackie Swanger (Bridgeport) and Angie Stump (Parrottsville) will tangle at the Community Center gym starting at 7 p.m. to finish out Friday's schedule.

Saturday's games will be played at three locations, including Centerview, the Rec Department gym and the Community Center gym.

Co-Ed: Coaches Brad Calfee (Centerview) and Melissa McGill (Smoky) will play at Centerview starting at 10 a.m. while coaches Heather Ball (Grassy) and Craig Henderson (Del Rio) will play at the Rec Department gym at 10 a.m. Coaches Jessica Galler (Centerview) and Heather Hooper (Smoky) will play at Centerview starting at 11 a.m. while coaches Chasity Gentry (Rec Department) and Kevin Hall (Edgemont) will play at the Community Center gym starting at 11 a.m. Coaches Travis Coggins (Grassy) and David Ramsey (Del Rio) will play at the Rec Department gym starting at 11 a.m. And, coaches Chelsea Meigs (Edgemont) and Randy Driskill (Parrottsville) will play at the Rec Department gym starting at 12 p.m.

8-9 Girls: Coaches Betty Cox (Centerview) and Charlie Stewart (Community Center) will play at Centerview starting at 12 p.m. And, coaches Jackie Swanger (Bridgeport) and Scottie Thornton (Edgemont) will tangle at the Rec Department gym starting at 1 p.m.

8-9 Boys: Coaches Larry Joe Hipshire (Centerview) and Matt Gentry (Community Center) will play at Centerview starting at 1 p.m.

10-11 Girls: Coaches Chasity Gentry (Community Center) and Kristal Workman (Rec Department/Smoky) will play at the Community Center gym starting at 12 p.m. And, coaches Laura Eslinger (Centerview) and Matt Gentry (Community Center) will play at Centerview starting at 2 p.m.

10-11 Boys: Coaches Courtney Graham (Community Center) and Stueffon Thomas (Rec Department/Edgemont) will play at the Community Center gym starting at 1 p.m. And, coaches David Hensley (Centerview) and Tommy Bell (Smoky) will play at Centerview starting at 3 p.m.

12-15 Boys: Coaches Randall O'Dell and Marty Denton will square off at the Community Center gym starting at 3 p.m. And, coaches Michelle Lane and Troy Ball will play at the Community Center gym tipping at 4 p.m.
