NEWPORT-It was back to the hardwood for Cocke County elementary school squads as they wrapped up another week of play on Thursday night, December 10. The schedule had Smoky Mountain at Bridgeport, Grassy Fork at home to Centerview, Edgemont at Northwest and Cosby hosting Parrottsville.

Smoky Mountain 15

The Lady Rockets built up a big first-half lead and the Lady Bears were never able to recover. The Lady Rockets shot off to a 6-0 first quarter lead, and led 19-4 at the break. The Lady Rockets led 25-14 at the end of three and cruised home with the 20-point victory. Alexis Williams had a game-high 23 points to lead the Lady Rockets while Cyara Williams had 11 points to lead the Lady Bears.

Bridgeport (35): Alexis Williams 23, Megan Finchum 8, Courtney Cox 2, Cheyenne Kelley 2.

Smoky Mountain (15): Cyara Williams 11, Courtney Napieralski 2, Alpha Parton 1, Alexis Haney 1.

This game was tight through three quarters, but the Smoky Bears exploded in the final frame. The Smoky Bears led 10-8 at the end of the first quarter, and their lead was three, 18-15, at the half. The Rockets remained in striking distance, trailing the Smoky Bears 28-23 at the end of three. But, the Smoky Bears outscored the Rockets 16-6 over the final six minutes for the 15-point victory. Max Weeks had a game-high 22 points to lead the Smoky Bears while Patrick Hurst had 21 points to lead the Rockets.

Smoky Mountain (44): Max Weeks 22, Jacob Grooms 12, Justin Shelton 6, Lucas Weeks 3, Dereck Weeks 1.

Bridgeport (29): Patrick Hurst 21, Erin Hartsell 4, Blake Gentry 2, Stoney Bohannon 2.

The Lady Ravens took control early and kept the Lady Falcons at bay. The Lady Ravens led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter, and made it 24-16 at the half. The Lady Ravens led by 10, 32-22, at the end of three and coasted home with the 15-point victory. Dessie Shaffer had a game-high 20 points for the Lady Ravens while Leah Lewandowski had 15 points to lead the Lady Falcons.

Grassy Fork (48): Dessie Shaffer 20, Wendy McGaha 14, Payton Johnson 6, Katie Mae Lanzon 4, Kaitlyn Thompson 2, Julie McGaha 2.

Centerview (33): Leah Lewandowski 15, Hannah Miller 6, Brooke Holt 5, Hannah Burke 4, Hayley Miller 2, Kaylee Reed 1.

The two teams battled tooth-and-nail in the first half, but the Ravens took control over the final two frames. The Ravens and Falcons were dead even, 8-8, at the end of the first quarter, but the Falcons took a three-point lead, 17-14, into the break. The Ravens pushed their lead to eight, 28-20, at the end of three, and flew home with the eight-point victory. Thomas Edwards had a game-high 14 points to lead the Ravens while Colin White had nine points to lead the Falcons.

Grassy Fork (41): Thomas Edwards 14, David Moore 10, Keenan Phillips 9, Jordan Reid 5, Zach Strausbaugh 2, Luke Howell 1.

Centerview (33): Collin White 9, Kelby Hayes 8, Ryder Keedwell 7, Dylan Brockwell 4, Adam Loyd 3, Cody Bellman 2.


Game info for Northwest-Edgemont and Cosby-Parrottsville was unavailable at press time.


 

The Cocke County elementary school squads will see their final full schedule for 2009 on Monday, December 14. On the schedule for Monday is Centerview playing at Del Rio while Smoky Mountain visits Parrottsville. Northwest will be at home to Bridgeport. And, Edgemont will host Grassy Fork, which also includes a girl's junior varsity game at 5 p.m. Girl's varsity tips at 6 p.m. while boy's varsity starts about 20 minutes following the conclusion of the girl's varsity game.
