Newport Attorney, Fred L. Myers, Jr. is seeking re-election
to the state-level post of Republican Executive Committeeman for the state's
first district.
Myers has been his district GOP committeeman for 22 years.
If elected, Myers pledges "to continue to efficiently
represent the first senatorial district (Cocke, Hamblen, Greene, and Unicoi
counties) in all matters which concern them in the Tennessee Republican Party."
Myers has been married to the former Norma Jean Cureton for
42 years and they have a daughter-Janice Sue Myers Raines, of Newport. He is
the son of the late Dossie H. Myers and Fred L. Myers, Sr.
Myers graduated from Cocke County High School in 1954 and
received his law degree from the University of Tennessee in 1961. He was
admitted to the bar in 1962 and was licensed to practice before US courts of
appeals in 1974.
Myers was honorably discharged from the United States Army
and rose to the rank of captain in the Tennessee National Guard.
Myers served as a Tennessee state senator in 1974.
Locally, Myers has been a member of the Newport/Cocke County
Chamber of Commerce, Newport Rescue Squad Board of Directors, chairman of the
Cocke County Regional Planning Commission, president of the Cocke County Bar
Association, and has served as county attorney.
He attends First Baptist Church and is a member of Am-Vets,
the American Legion, the National Rifleman Association, and various other
sporting clubs.
This is a non paying position, and since his first election
Myers has financed all of his transportation, fuel, food, lodging, and days
away from work. He does this because of his dedication to the Republican Party.
