NEWPORT—Members of the Hard Times Street Rod Club are putting the finishing touches on their 36th annual Moonshine Rod Run, which will bring approximately 500 cars dating from 1972 and earlier to Newport City Park next weekend.

Registration opens Friday, June 14, at noon, and again at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 15.

This year club members are pleased to have Wayne Milstead as a special guest. Milstead is bringing Kyle Busch’s No. 5 Kellogg’s Chevrolet to the show. Busch drove the car to the 2005 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year honor.

Another special guest will be L.D. Ottinger, Newport’s own racing legend. Ottinger is a two-time NASCAR Busche Series (LMS) National Champion. He scored wins at Langley, Martinsville, and Bristol Motor Speedway.

Television personalities Mark and Digger will be splitting their time between the Moonshine Rod Run and the annual Popcorn Sutton Jam and will be available for photos and autographs each day until late afternoon.

Food and beverages will be available both days from St. Tide Baptist Church and the Edwina Ruritan Club.

The 2019 Moonshine Rod Run will provide over $2,000 in cash giveaways, 50/50 drawings, and a Chevrolet 350 Cubic Inch Crate Motor provided by Stinnett Automotive Group.
