NEWPORT—The body of Bybee resident Charles Queen, 72, was discovered in the Little River around 1:30 p.m. on Monday.

Rangers in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park said his vehicle was located about 600 feet upriver, parked along an embankment about one mile west of Metcalf Bottoms.

Gatlinburg EMS and Fire crews were involved in the rescue before a swift water rescue team was sent into the river to recover his body.

The national park said no witnesses were identified. The Sevier County Medical Examiner’s office will determine when and how Queen died, but park officials said there were no obvious signs of foul play.
