ROCK HILL, S.C.—The Tusculum University volleyball team has been picked to finish in a tie for eighth in the South Atlantic Conference, according to the 2019 Coaches' Poll.
The Pioneers received 51 total points in a vote of the conference's 12 head coaches. Defending league champion Wingate is the favorite to win the title as the Bulldogs garnered 10 first place votes and 131 points. Anderson is second with 121 points including two first place nods. Lincoln Memorial and Carson-Newman are tied for third place with 104 points, followed by Queens University of Charlotte (90), Lenoir-Rhyne (87), Mars Hill (67), Tusculum, Catawba (51), Coker (49), Newberry (46), and conference newcomer UVa-Wise (23).
Tusculum returns 15 letter-winners from last year's 6-20 squad that finished 10th in the league standings.
The Pioneers will open the season at Georgia College, where they will compete in the Bobcat Classic from Sept. 6-7. In Milledgeville, Tusculum will face the host, Lindenwood (Mo.), and future SAC foe Limestone.
